Making email manageable
July 2004
As seen in Technology and Business Magazine, Australia
http://www.technologyandbusiness.com.au
"Overall this is a very impressive package. The main
benefit is its pre-indexed searches, and these are very speedy.
The user interface is well designed and everything is logically
placed. This application must surely be on everyone's shortlist
for evaulation."

Cathleen Moore talks about desktop and personal
search
|
You
know something's hot when Google rumors fly
One facet of enterprise search that has historically fallen beneath
the vendor radar is now gaining attention from some of the big names
in technology. Desktop search lately has been grabbing headlines
through the whispered plans of companies like Microsoft and Google.
Other players in the space include... e-mail search tools such
as ISYS:email.search from ISYS Search Software

Stephen
H. Wildstrom talks about ISYS:email.search at BusinessWeek
online
|
If you want to search only e-mail messages in Outlook
or Outlook Express, ISYS:email.search from ISYS Search Software provides
a less expensive ($30, with a free 30-day trial) alternative. Like
X1, it starts by indexing your mail. Its search capabilities are actually
more refined than X1's, offering queries for exact phrases as well
as for key words linked by "and," "or," or "not."
You also can easily search by sender, recipient, or date range, but
the lack of a way to search by attachment name is unfortunate.

Even using the advanced find feature of Outlook can't help you
locate a message in your current or archive folders in anything
approaching a reasonable time.
Which is where ISYS comes in. Install it, let it automatically
index your mailbase, and tell it when to refresh that index in future.
Now multi-thousand message index can be searched and the results
returned (sorted and displayed according to your preference) in
a matter of seconds. Searches can be done using Boolean operators,
Internet web search style or using a natural language interface.
Search terms are highlighted in the results, with single click hit
to hit hopping, and ranked by relevancy. Working with the results
is as easy as finding them, print, export, view, copy are all just
a click away.
Outlook 2003 is an excellent mail client (did I really say that?)
but ISYS makes it a whole lot better.

...And I find the wonderful ISYS e-mail from ISYS Search Software (mandatory jingoism: and it's Australian!) does the best
possible job of finding someone's most recent message (if I've ever
communicated with them by e-mail). It finds everything. And it doesn't
take forty days and forty nights, like the Outlook "find"
function (try it - I have thousands upon thousands of messages, and
ISYS searches still as quick as the Enter key).

A few months ago I came across... locally
developed ISYS:email.search. It simply indexes every word in every
e-mail in your mailbox (including archives). When you need to find
something, type in the search term and it brings it up in about a
second, literally. |
